our fingers intertwined

the soft curve of a cheek against mine

my fingers in their hair

leaning, always leaning against me

sadness when we leave

joy when we return

faces lit and tongues unloosed

secrets in our ears

growing, seeking, finding

pushing, exploring, becoming

under our protection

knowing they are loved

letting them go

sharing doubts and hope and faith

letting them be free
